5 Questions To Ask Before You Move Or Remodel

The old question of whether it is more efficient to move or remodel can be a tricky one to answer. Remodels can be more cost-effective and help you increase the value of your home if you decide to move in the future but moving can help with jobs and help you gain a new perspective. Rosewood offers the highest quality remodeling and wants you to improve your life with a new atmosphere in your home but remodeling is not for everyone. Here are questions to ask yourself before you move or remodel.

1- What Is Your Budget?

Taking into account how much each option will cost is the first place to start. If your budget can nicely cover the cost of buying a house, moving vans, buying new fixtures, and costs of driving to the new residence, then moving may be an easy option for you. Remodeling can still rack up costs but may prolong the costs over a longer period of time.

Before you begin any project or life change, keeping in mind your finances will help you make the best decision for yourself. Costs can also fluctuate and change while you are in the planning stages, so plan ahead for flexibility in your budget.

2- Is It A Good Time To Sell?

If you are looking to move or remodel, the timing of selling your home and moving your belongings into the new one need to align. If the market is not doing well, selling your home can take a lot longer than you planned.

Listing your house at the right time can also give you the most money for your old home. Buyers want to buy when interest rates are low, so watching the housing market and looking at other homes around you can help you list at the right time.

Inviting a contractor into your home can feel like a gamble. You are likely wondering if you are about to deal with a high-pressure pitch, a vague lowball quote that doubles later, or a contractor who seems more interested in closing the sale than understanding your project.

3- Does This Move Shorten Your Commute?

A large reason that families move is to start a new job or move closer to their place of work. If your current residence is too far from your job, considering a move to shorten the commute is in your best interest. Commuting costs you a lot more time and money than you realize, so saving on driving time and gas money is a big benefit for moving. When considering whether to move or remodel, keep in mind the future costs as well.

4- Will Your Remodel Be Complete Or Partial?

If you are thinking of completing a complete remodel of your home, the cost is going to be higher. The other thing to consider is that if you are remodeling your entire home, there will be little to no space for you to “live” or function from day to day. You may need to find another location or residents to stay in while the work is being done on parts of your home.

A partial remodel will still require you to be misplaced from certain areas, but it can be more manageable. Partial remodels can also be completed in phases, for example completing only the bathroom one year, and completing the kitchen the next. Not only does this give you time to save more money, but also prevents you from living in a construction zone for longer.

5- Do You Mind Living In A Construction Zone?

Remodeling your home can get chaotic and messy and can be tough to function in. When your space is misplaced and disorganized, it can be hard to use it for its true purpose. Because the construction zone can be chaotic, overwhelming feelings may make it difficult to complete the renovation.

Remodeling requires you to store items that are in the construction zone, or in another area, making the rest of your home feel cluttered as well. If you do not function well in a disorganized space, remodeling might not be the best option for you.

Mitch and the Rosewood Team are true pros! Outstanding quality with great communication and attention to their clients’ budget. They recently repaired an exterior door for me that I was certain would need replacing. They did excellent work and saved me several thousand dollars compared to what a full replacement would have cost.

All around a top notch and professional contractors. I had a great experience with their customer service in getting a quote and set up for a cabinet painting job at my home. The team lead for the project Ben and his crew member Drake were very professional and friendly. They did a phenomenal job on our cabinets and cleaned up everything thoroughly. Couldn’t have asked for a better team!
